The Dark Knight Rises Prologue

Warner Bros. Pictures’ “The Dark Knight Rises”—the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy—is one of the most anticipated films of 2012, but moviegoers won’t have to wait until next year to see the six-minute opening sequence of the film. When it opens next summer, The Dark Knight Rises will include 30 minutes of select scenes filmed in IMAX.

The film’s prologue will be played exclusively in select 70mm IMAX® theatres worldwide. The AutoNation® IMAX Theater is one of only three theaters in Florida selected by Warner Bros. Pictures for this exclusive engagement of the Dark Knight Rises Prologue, the other theaters being located in Tampa and Orlando. The six-minutes-long The Dark Knight Rises prologue will play before each show of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol during its run at the AutoNation® IMAX Theater.

In a December 1, 2011 Warner Bros. press release, Christopher Nolan stated, “Our experience on ‘The Dark Knight’ shooting and projecting IMAX 15 perf 65mm/70mm film was inspiring. The immersive quality of the image goes beyond any other filmmaking tool available, and in revisiting Gotham, we were determined to shoot even more of the movie in this unique format. Giving the fans an early look at an IMAX sequence is a great way to draw attention to what I believe will be an incredible way to experience our story when it comes out next summer.”

4/5 stars Box Office Magazine

Like a shark slipping by swift, sleek and silver-grey, Mission: Impossible 4 is so well-made and smooth you may need to see it more than once to truly appreciate its brains and nerves and blood. With Cruise's star power—and a word-of-mouth "Wow!" factor that will make paying the IMAX premium less painful—Mission: Impossible 4 will earn more than enough rock-'em, sock-em let-me-entertain-you goodwill (and money, of course) to keep the fuse lit on this 15-year running franchise, now under the steady hand of producer J. J. Abrams. Full Review

A- Hit Fix

You may be aware that Bird shot some of the film using the IMAX cameras, and one of the reasons I would encourage you to see the film in that format is because of the very sly way Bird uses the transition from the full IMAX frame to a more traditional widescreen frame, blowing it out to the full size for almost all of his major establishing shots moving over the vistas of cities around the world. Here, we start in Budapest, and the way the film pushes in on a rooftop in the city while in constant motion, the full IMAX frame opened to the top and the bottom, it's almost like you can fall into the frame…. Short answer? This is one mission you absolutely should choose to accept when it opens in IMAX. Full Review

Screen Daily

Paramount screened Ghost Protocol for reviewers in IMAX, and the movie’s action scenes have extra pop thanks to the larger, enveloping screen. The Burj Khalifa sequence is the most obvious beneficiary, but elsewhere as well the confident, taut filmmaking lends itself nicely to the IMAX treatment. For those who argue that the future of blockbuster movies isn’t 3D but rather IMAX, Ghost Protocol will help bolster their case. Full Article
